Cultivate Faithfulness

Desires of our heart Image - FaithfulnessWe all want God to give us the desires of our heart.

Last week we looked at Psalm 37:4. It reads, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Nobody wants to see their hopes and dreams fade away. This verse teaches us that when we are humble we are to be led by our Heavenly Father and He will give us the right desires and bring them to pass.

The verse right before it shows us that faithfulness is essential in this process.

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness,” (Psalm 37:3).

We need to let the power of God work through us so our faith won’t fail before we receive the promise. The reason we don’t see the promises of God come to pass is not because He doesn’t love us, but because we give up before the finish line.

The key to experiencing the fullness of God’s plan for our lives is faithfulness. For the children of God, this is much more than a character trait. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Our Heavenly Father knows that if we are going to receive everything He has for us, we need faithfulness. We need the supernatural ability to stay true to what God has called us to be and do.

In a world that wants everything right now, faithfulness is exchanged for convenience. We gladly trade consistency for the quick fix.

Proverbs 28:20 teaches us the exact opposite, “A faithful man will abound with blessings…”

What would happen to the divorce rate? I’m not just talking about married people who have affairs. All marriages go through difficult seasons. God calls us to be faithful in these seasons. Faithfulness is not staying true to our calling until it becomes difficult. It’s staying true to our calling before, during and after hard times.

Faithfulness gives us the ability to stand firm during difficulty because our faith is not our strength or wisdom, but God’s goodness and power. We know that His plans always come to pass. All we have to do is continually reach out to Him and He will never leave us empty handed.

Just don’t give up. Don’t give up on your prayers. Don’t abandon your faith, and certainly don’t give up on God.

He promises us in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.”

God will come through for you. He will give you the desires of your heart. Stay faithful.
