Righteousness

We all come into this world separated from God because of Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden. One act against God caused everyone in history to be born into sin. Ever since mankind was locked out of the Garden we’ve been trying to find a way back to God.

Different people call it different things: Inner Peace, Enlightenment, Transcendence. The truth is that because we are born into sin we have an inner knowing that something in us isn’t right, so we’ll use almost any method in a futile attempt to fix it. However, outside of the solution our Heavenly Father has provided, there is no fixing the sin problem.

There are no amounts of volunteering, donations, good works or good will that can bridge the gap between God and man. That’s because God never intended for man to do it himself. He never wanted us to be the source of our own salvation.

This is why Jesus died on the cross. He did it to make a way for us to reconnect with God our Father. He did it so we could regain what we what had in the Garden of Eden, and then some. He did it to make us righteous.

Righteous is a key word in our walk with God. When Jesus saved us, He didn’t simply erase the sin from our past, present and future, and leave us to fend for ourselves. No, we are born again to reign as kings in this life with Jesus; “For if by the transgression of the one (Adam), death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”(Romans 5:17 NASB).

Righteousness is the gift of being justified and given right-standing with God through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. It’s a complete turnaround from who we were before we were in Christ. It can drastically change every area of our lives for the better when we live as the righteousness of God in Christ.
