Stay Connected To The Vine

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NLT)

These were some of Jesus’ last words to His disciples before He went to the Cross.

His promise to His disciples is eternal and applies to us today. When we walk closely with Jesus, we will have open access to everything. Without Jesus we’ll live unfruitful and unfulfilling lives. The key to staying fruitful is staying connected.

We stay connected to Jesus when we are an active part of His body.

A hand that is disconnected from a body is powerless, and honestly, useless. A hand that is connected and working in unity with the body is a powerful tool.

The lie that so many Christians have told themselves is that they don’t need to be part of a body (church) to be fruitful in the kingdom of God. They attempt to live the Christian life alone, isolated from their brothers and sisters in Christ. This doesn’t mean that they can’t do good works or mature in their relationship with Jesus, but their separation leaves them without a support system.

We should be like branches that connect to a vine, so when we struggle and want to quit, we aren’t alone.

We can look to our right and our left and see other Christians succeeding and their testimony will encourage us. It’s easy to lose faith when we’re by ourselves, but when we surround ourselves with other believers, they can lift us back up.

“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT)

Connection to the Body of Christ gives us support in our time of need and a place to bear much fruit.

Let us never believe or think that we have to make it alone. We’re created to be connected. We find support in connection. We find power in connection. It’s only in Him that we’ll bear much fruit, and that will lead to satisfaction.

“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)

The Abundant Life: Choose by Speaking

We choose how abundantly we live.

“See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity…  I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live,” Deuteronomy 30:15, 19

Abundant-Life-Choose-by-Speaking-We-Choose-QuoteThese verses are from the Old Testament but they are just as true for our lives today, except God hasn’t just placed the abundant life before us, He’s placed it in us. His grace lives in us because Jesus lives in us. That’s what makes the abundant life available. However, its availability doesn’t mean it will automatically happen for us. We choose whether or not abundance will become a reality.

How do we make this choice?

With the words we speak.

This truth is so opposed to everything we’re told by the world and our experiences. We’re taught to believe that our lives are a matter of chance and that we have little to no control over what happens to us.  This kind of thinking isn’t just from the world, it’s from the devil.  It makes us believe we are powerless. If we believe that we’re powerless, we’ll just accept our circumstances and never use the grace and power of God within us.

Without even thinking about it, we’ll have chosen the curse and adversity instead of the abundant life. We’ll only speak about the problems in our lives and the grace of God will go untouched within us.

Abundant-Life-Choose-by-Speaking-Believe-powerless-quoteBut, if we choose to start speaking abundance even when we can’t see it, our lives will begin to change.

We imitate our Heavenly Father and speak what we want to see, not what we’re seeing right now.

“Abraham believed when he stood in the presence of the God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that don’t even exist,” Romans 4:17 (GW)

If all we see in our marriage is strife and bitterness, we need to stop speaking about strife and bitterness. We have to make a conscious choice to speak peace and blessing about our spouse and our marriage. Doing this will release the grace of God in us and allow it to work in our marriage.

We can apply this principle to any area of our lives and see abundance flow, but it’s entirely up to us. Nobody else can make the decision for us. The God-kind of life is waiting on the other side.
