The Abundant Life: Abundant Thinking

Have you ever stopped to consider your thinking?

Abundant-Life-Abundant-Thinking-Set-Your-mind-on-Things-above-QuoteMost of us are raised to believe that we only have so much time, money, room, energy, etc., so we should be cautious with what we do with these things. If we use too much, too fast, then we won’t have enough for later. Or, if we give too much away, then we won’t have enough for ourselves. This kind of thinking is based in scarcity not abundance.

This is the mindset that dominates and controls this fallen world. Unbelievers and some believers spend their lives gathering up as much money and possessions in the name of scarcity. They’re afraid they won’t have enough. They are only looking at what they can see in the natural world. God has called His children to a higher way of living.

“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth,” Colossians 3:1-2 (NASB)

We have been raised up with Christ, so we should stop looking to the world and its people as our source. Abundant-Life-Abundant-Thinking-We-Have-Been-Raised-Quote

It’s true that the things of the earth only exist in limited amounts, so if we look to them to sustain us, then we will limit our lives. However, God is the God of more than enough. That’s why one of His names is El Shaddai. If our eyes and our minds are set on Him, then we will live as He lives: abundantly.

Our heavenly Father has never had a scarcity mindset about anything.

Even after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God did not think that all was lost. He made a way to give even more of His grace. He did not allow the limited condition of man and the world to change His thinking. We are able to do the same because Christ lives in us.

We must give up our mindset of “just enough” or “not enough”. It will lead only to selfishness and lack. We need to fix our eyes on Jesus and allow Him to be the source for our lives. When we begin thinking abundantly, we will speak abundantly. When we speak abundantly, we will see the God of more than enough work in our lives.

“Thinking Right”

Message at Angelus Temple, church home of the Dream Center in Los Angeles, CA on Thursday, February 9

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Angelus Temple and with Pastors Matthew and Caroline Barnett.  What an incredible church led by amazing Pastors.  The ministry they do in the city of Los Angeles is phenomenal.  I am grateful for my friendship with them and am especially humbled by being asked to speak to their congregation.

While the Live Stream did not work due to technical difficulties, they did record the service.  Here is the message, “Thinking Right”.  Enjoy!

Let me know what you think of the message on either Facebook or Twitter. You can also share your thoughts in the comments below.

Angelus Temple Logo In November 2001, Matthew Barnett took over the leadership of Angelus Temple. Angelus Temple was opened in 1923 by Aimee Semple McPherson, and Matthew continues the legacy of reaching the lost, hurting, and oppressed. The church now reaches thousands weekly and, together, with The Dream Center, is showing how churches and outreach centers can work together to make a huge impact for God’s kingdom.barnett_family1
